Drive your dog wild! 5 dog walks in Singapore

Living on a small, heavily populated island you may worry your dog is missing out on long walks. But just a short drive away, there are parks and green spaces well worth your time to get off the usual dog walking track.

The trusty Car team at Budget Direct Insurance has come up with top 5 of the best dog friendly places to take your pet.

1.Bukit Brown Cemetery

This Chinese Cemetery, formerly the biggest outside China, is now undergoing some serious building work as they run a road through it. Don’t let that put you off as it is still accessible (from the top of Kheam Hock Road) for dog walkers and, once you are past the bulldozers, spacious enough for a great walk with your dog. Take a friend if you have a thing about graves!

2. The Green Corridor

This is the disused railway track that used to run right through Singapore up to the Malaysian border. Parts are closed at present as it is being upgraded but it is slowly being re-opened and provides great walks with dogs. Check which stretches are still open and which bits are due to re-open soon.

3. Tanjong Beach, Sentosa

A great stretch of beach and water for dogs to frolic in. The beach club is very dog friendly all day, although get there early if you want your dog to run on the sand unleashed. After a certain time, all the dog owners put the leashes back on and head off, especially as the day heats up.

4. Labrador Nature Reserve

This is made up of two sections – the park which is flat and near the water and the nature reserve bit on the hill. Both rarely get overcrowded and some quality time with you canine can be enjoyed here. There’s even a sea breeze, a rarity in Singapore!

5. Sengkang Riverside Park

Pretty quiet even on weekends, this twenty one hectare park, trails and wetland area will be park heaven for your pet. From Sengkang Riverside Park, you can walk to Punggol Reservoir where you can find Sengkang floating wetlands. Park the car near the Mushroom cafe, although the cafe itself isn’t that dog friendly.

Dog wash stations

And when all the fun is over and your dog is in need of a good wash head to the dog wash station. This self service dog wash facility has been installed by Nparks and Dog Wash Singapore. There are currently two locations; West Coast park at car park 1 and Turf City at Sunny Heights. The bath fits all types of dogs from Chihuahua to Great Dane. Shampoo, condition, treat fleas, ticks and dry your dog all in ten minutes!

Did you know?

By law you must ….leash your dog in public places unless otherwise stated. You must also pick up their mess, microchip and licence your dog with the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) and keep your dog at the address listed with AVA and inform them of any changes.

Wherever you go, whatever you do, remember it’s vital to have good car, motorcycle and travel cover.
