Thinking about getting your Singapore Class 3/3A driver’s licence? Singapore Police helpfully publishes statistics about the pass-rates for students from the three driving centres (Bukit Batok Driving Centre, ComfortDelGro Driving Centre, Singapore Safety Driving Centre, as well as private instructors).

The latest available figures are for tests conducted between July 2021 and June 2022. And at a glance at the first-time pass rates, it looks like ComfortDelGro with a pass rate of 58.77% for learners in the Class 3A Practical Driving Test (PDT), could be the fastest way to get yourself on the road.

But passing the Practical Driving Test is not your only challenge in the path to getting your driving licence. Before you can even do the PDT, you will need to pass both the Basic Theory Test, and the Final Theory Test, and the pass-rates for those at the different driving centres tells a slightly different story.

The first-time pass rates for both Basic Theory Test and Final Theory Test shows Bukit Batok Driving Centre with a clear lead.

As always with statistics, the devil is in the detail.

While the first-time Practical Driving Test pass rate for ComfortDelGro Driving Centre tells a story, it doesn’t tell the whole the story, as the pass-rates for the Basic and Final Theory Tests shows.

When deciding to learn to drive, you will need to weigh the cost and convenience of taking private lessons against the generally lower pass rates, or to look at the whole picture when choosing a driving school and choosing the option that best suits your needs.
