March 20th is International Proposal Day
Still feeling loved up after Valentine’s Day? Or looking for another excuse to go somewhere quiet with your special someone? Help is at hand in the form of International Proposal Day. Yes, it really is a thing.
This year, on March 20, you will have just the excuse you’ve been looking for to ask your loved one the big question.
Here are our top suggestions to pop the question around Singapore. Your choice of top romantic spots that score you high on imagination, and low on cost!
1. Henderson waves
This stunning pedestrian bridge has the best views in Singapore. As its name suggests the bridge is a waveform and its shape means there are lots of hidden recesses and cubby holes, just perfect for two. The walkway is lit between the hours of 7pm to 2am so you have a few hours to choose the right moment!
Where? The bridge is part of the Southern Ridges Walk and connects Telok Blangah Hill Park and Mount Faber Park.
2. Little Guilin
A quiet spot to take a loved one. This small park area has a pretty lake and giant rock cliff reminiscent of China’s Guilin, hence the name. Popular with walkers and for wedding photos so head off early and enjoy the sounds of wildlife waking up. There are some large rocks by the lake where your loved one can rest while you go down on one knee!
Where? Little Guilin is located at Bukit Batok Town Park along Bukit Batok East Avenue 5, a five-minute walk from Bukit Gombak MRT.
3. Changi Point Coastal Walk
One of the best places in Singapore where the coastal view isn’t dominated by container ships. Changi village still has old-fashioned charm and the coastal boardwalk is a good spot to watch the sun go down. It’s open 24 hours a day and has great views to Pulau Ubin but at only 2km long it’s a lazy stroll. Make sure to find your moment before it comes to an abrupt end!
4. Lazarus Island
Pack a perfect picnic and head to the beach on Lazarus Island, Singapore’s best kept secret. The pretty U shaped sandy beach with turquoise clear water lapping gently at the shore, this is a great place to pop the question while you paddle in the water. Hand in hand of course.
This is for the nature lover as there are no facilities on the island, pack sunscreen and bug spray! Avoid public holidays, go mid week when there’s a good chance you’ll have the place to yourself.
Where? Catch a ferry at Marina South Pier and get off at St John’s Island before taking a 10-minute walk to Lazarus Island via a small bridge.
5. Rooftop bars
Don’t forget Singapore has a skyline to rival anywhere in the world. Take your loved one to a favourite rooftop bar, take time to reserve the best spot and briefed the waiter!
Final tip?
Timing is everything. Check out your romantic spot on your own before you take your partner along. What kind of place does your partner find most romantic? Marriage is all about finding common ground so start as you mean to go on!
