Budget Singapore Getting the best things in life, for free
Here are some things that are free.
A good joke
All this to say that some of the best things in life are free. And things shared with people you love are priceless. Back in the world of money, the health of your bank balance is directly related to how you spend. Paying for things you could get much cheaper, or even free can leave a big hole in your monthly finances.
Buying insurance online is a no-brainer. It’s quicker, cheaper and it works just as well or even better than doing what your family has always done. Here are simple equations.
Insurance + middle man + commission = expensive + complicated
Insurance + online direct = cheaper + quicker
Think how healthy your bank balance could be if you looked at other ways to save. Here are some little ideas from Budget Direct Insurance to help your bank balance look bigger.
Is necessary for the good life, and can be very expensive in Singapore. Here are some ways to enjoy life just as much, but cheaper
- Look for free events, there are often fun things to do at Sentosa, the Botanic Gardens and the Esplanade for free. If music or drama is your thing, check out the events page at Singapore’s Universities and Polytechnics. These always have a great vibe and are much cheaper than the kind of thing you find at the Hard Rock Café or Zouk.
- Want peace and quiet, the latest magazine, newspaper or novel? Head for your local library. These are free places to relax and spend some time away from your HDB or condo. And they also have a number of free programs throughout the year.
My Tree House at the Central Public Library is especially funky and great for chill time with kids.
- If you are a movie buff, why not start a movie club at home? A bit like a book club but with pictures and sound! You could ask people to bring snacks and have a chat about the movie afterwards.
In the next in this series, we will look at how to save money on gifts and holidays.
“Pick up a camera. Shoot something. No matter how small, no matter how cheesy, no matter whether your friends and your sister star in it. Put your name on it as director. Now you're a director. Everything after that you're just negotiating your budget and your fee.” James Cameron, Director
